Poetry Unit Goal #4
Great work, everyone! Keep those haiku coming! You're doing a wonderful job including notable contrasts in your poems, and I'm appreciating the range of tones: somber, optimistic, humorous, frustrated, etc.
Please read about this familiar poetic form. Go outside with a notebook and pencil. Observe your surroundings, pay attention, and try your hand at a haiku. Think more about including a contrast than worrying strictly about the 5-7-5 syllabic pattern. Post your poem on the class discussion page.

Goal #4: To pay attention - as the poet does - to the world around and within
Please read about this familiar poetic form. Go outside with a notebook and pencil. Observe your surroundings, pay attention, and try your hand at a haiku. Think more about including a contrast than worrying strictly about the 5-7-5 syllabic pattern. Post your poem on the class discussion page.

Running with a facemask
ReplyDeleteI stop at the crosswalk and
watch maple buds unfurl
Rain dripping off trees
ReplyDeletemay seam to be a terrible day
but the sky is blue
Sweetness in the air
ReplyDeletedrips off the leaves of the bush
when it rains outside
Sky looks dark, wind blows
ReplyDeleteRain spits on me, but I'm warm
The sun will come soon
Tulip destined to
ReplyDeleteDie but it doesn't mind and
Glows even brighter
I turned my shade down
ReplyDeletebut the sunlight still comes through
I can’t concentrate
Mornings cold and dry
ReplyDeleteRough brown trunks rooted strongly
Fresh buds of spring bloom
As clouds fill the sky
ReplyDeletePeople disappear into their houses
Next rain hits the ground
Lysol in your hand
ReplyDeleteQuarantine is not stopping
I’m getting in my bed
The rain is pouring
ReplyDeleteThe skies made of cloudy gray
Still the flower stands
The green grass is wet
ReplyDeleteThe sky filling up with grey
But the sun shines through
The sky is silver
ReplyDeletebut the sunlight still comes through
summer is coming
Yellow leaves on trees
ReplyDeleteSo just enjoy while it lasts
Since it will be gone
Nothing is moving
ReplyDeleteExcept for the birds, flying
Though the sky is grey
Feels like Groundhog's Day,
ReplyDeleteRepeating the same schedule,
Trapped inside my house
Stillness on the streets
ReplyDeleteStillness in the gloomy sky
With a hint of sun
The plants wave gently
ReplyDeleteBlowing in the morning breeze
It is so peaceful
The world's closed today
ReplyDeleteBirds chirp and the sun peaked but
No one dares to care
Rain hits the cement
ReplyDeleteSilent on the barren streets
Alone in nature
Above the stone wall
ReplyDeleteGreen buds full of life burst from
Brown cracked branches of the bush
Days are getting long
ReplyDeleteThis is a sign of summer
But we’re trapped inside
-Angelica
The branches are still
ReplyDeletePerched, the birds chirp peacefully
Inside the dog barks
It’s gloomy outside
ReplyDeleteThere’s no inspiration, but
Look at Curry man
Looking over the fence
ReplyDeleteBuds blossom and flowers bloom
The wind against trees.
Brightness in the sky
ReplyDeleteWith no life out in the open
Except the birds
It’s close
ReplyDeleteTwo large tree stumps
Freshly cut from their top half
Left to die slowly
It is too early
ReplyDeleteWith a sleep pattern like mine
To do google meet
Orange buds blooming
ReplyDeleteGreen grass growing all around
Pale white on the walls.
Finally caught up
ReplyDeleteOn the sleep I lost from school
Now there's nothing to do
Framed by the window,
ReplyDeleteI forget the outside is
Not just a painting
Birds are chirping
ReplyDeleteThe sun is bright in the sky
No one else is here
It is dull outside
ReplyDeleteSo search throughout your mind to
Find the missing light
"Hope" signs and masks are
ReplyDeleteLittered on the streets and lawns.
Pick up your trash, please.
Sun begins to rise
ReplyDeleteColor fills the morning sky
Old moon fades away
Bright tulips swaying
ReplyDeleteAs the rain comes pouring down
Puddles emerge now
Grey skies peeking through
ReplyDeleteThe overlapping branches
While the flowers bloom
Sun out of my view
ReplyDeleteAll days blend into the same
The birds are chirping
Clouds as far as I can see
ReplyDeleteSo I stay inside
Time for creativity
It is way too bright
ReplyDeleteWhat day of the week is it
Back to sleep it is
The sun emanates far
ReplyDeleteThe sun seems to remain but the shadows change
The shadows extend abstractly
Asleep in my bed
ReplyDeleteI feel like I am falling
I wake up afraid
The long unmowed grass
ReplyDeleteThe grey sky, no sun in sight
Rainy days will come
The world is quiet now
ReplyDeleteWind is roaring through the trees
The rain continues
Turkeys walk outside
ReplyDeleteI remain stuck in my house
Nature still moves on.
Gray clouds in the sky
ReplyDeleteA very different world,
From the one with walls.
It is dull outside
ReplyDeleteGrey Clouds, Barely blowing trees
I go back inside
Sun-baked mottled bricks
ReplyDeleteZephyr caresses branches
Warm leaf-dappled glow.

dark skies starry night
ReplyDeleteshadows are hidden tonight
the sun is coming
Sweet sunny air out there
ReplyDeleteYet it feels just as enclosed
With nobody to share
The Sun shines brightly
ReplyDeleteIt is a beautiful day
Yet the streets are bare
Sitting in her perch
ReplyDeleteI come close, she flys away
Robin left her eggs
